For this reflection I read The Wright Brothers by David McCullough:
The most admirable thing about the Wright brothers is that they took their childhood dream and transformed it into a reality. Their dream began when their father brought home a “helicopter”, a machine that flew to the top of their ceiling. They stopped at nothing to create one of the greatest things known to mankind
The Wright brothers had various competencies such as hard work, perseverance, determination, and passion
Luckily for me there weren’t any confusing part of the book for me, being a pilot I understand the mechanics and the physics that goes on behind the scene of flight. I also understood their trouble as thy tried various designs.
Two questions I would ask of the Wright brothers are:
1. If you could do it again, how would you do it differently
2. Did you always know you were one day going to actually achieve this goal?
5. I think that the Wright brothers are the epitome of hard work, they spent countless years working on something they had complete passion for and eventually it paid off.
I love that you are a pilot and chose this book to read. Reminds you, perhaps, of the reason why you chose your field. And what the wright brothers had to endure in order for you to have your chosen career field. I personally can't imagine all the physics that goes into flying a plane let alone creating one! the amount of trial and error i'm sure was great beyond our knowledge.
ReplyDeleteHi Jorge,
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your reading reflection! That's so cool that you are a pilot! I am not surprised you chose to read about the Wright Brothers. I especially liked how you said that you would ask them if they always knew that one day they would actually achieve their goal. The scary thing about being an entrepreneur (or starting any type of new venture, such as starting university)is that there is no guarantee that you will succeed. The scariest thing to me (and I think to a lot of people) about being an entrepreneur is the idea that all you're doing could amount to nothing, and you could be completely wasting your time. I think that having the courage to simply take that risk and just go for it is what separates successful entrepreneurs from everyone else.
Great job!
Hi Jorge,
ReplyDeleteThe Wright Brothers are super interesting to me. I used to love going to the aeronautical sections in museums to learn about them. Did you know that Leonardo Da Vinci actually invented the hellicopter in like the 16th century (i think..) Anyway, great reflection on the book.
